Pastor E-Note
Greetings Topeka First UMC, I hope that you are having a great week. Pastor's Sandra, Grace, and I spent the week at the United Methodist Church of the Resurrection with all the pastors of the Great Plains Conference. This annual meeting is called "Orders and Fellowship." We always enjoy these kinds of events to catch up with friends and colleagues! We are also glad to be home! This Sunday, we will be celebrating All Saints Sunday. Saints in the United Methodist Church are the faithful who have transitioned from this life to the next. We will remember those who have passed over this last year, and remember our own heroes in our faith journey's. The theme for this week is "The Faith of the Saints." As part of our community ministry, we are preparing to start a new program with Scott Dual Language Magnet school called Lunch Buddies. Would you like to get to know a child at the school? The idea of Lunch Buddies is to build relationships between adults and children who could benefit from having another adult in their life. The hope is that the adults can meet with their child once a week for lunch. This is a really great opportunity for children to practice their English and have positive role models. This program is still in the planning stages, but we really would like to gauge interest from our congregation. If you would be available one day each week of the school year for 30 minutes between 11 am & 1 pm, would you please email Shawna at shawna@fumctopeka.org to indicate your interest? Don't forget the time change this weekend! Set your clocks back an hour and enjoy that extra hour of sleep. Next Wednesday, November 6, at 6:30 pm, we will welcome Jane Langat who is the Director of Intercultural Development for the Great Plains Conference. Rev. Langat led a training with the Leadership Council earlier this year to bring awareness and support for our leadership team as Pastor Sandra was beginning her ministry with us. This training was received well with the Leadership team and we are excited for all of you to experience this important training. We'll have a sign up sheet at the Connection Desk in the Celebration Room. See you Sunday, Pastor Brad |
Thank you!
