Topeka First UMC News, Info., & Events
Greetings Topeka First UMC, I hope that you are having a great week! Fall-O-Ween is just around the corner! We need everyone’s help to make this event a huge success. Please pray for this outreach event! Be sure to invite, friends, family, and neighbors. We also need more candy, and trunks for people to hand out candy. At the end of last year, as we voted to switch to the Simplified Accountability System, one conversation that we had was the need for an individual Church Conference, rather than a Cluster Charge Conference. Thank you to our District Superintendent Rev. Jenny Collins, who will be conducting a Church Conference at the church on Sunday, November 8, at 3:00 pm. We will have more information about this event over the next few weeks. Coming up this weekend in worship, we will continue our sermon series, “Look What God Can Do.” This week we will look at how God is at work through each of us. The scripture theme for this series is from Ephesians where we read how God takes all that we give and uses in ways that are beyond our imagination. On Sunday, we will look at how God calls us to live into this promise, doing what we can, and having faith that God will work through us. I hope you will join us at 8:15, 9:30, or 10:45! The 9:30 am & 10:45 am services are also live-streamed. See you Sunday, |
A Personal Update from Pat
It is hard to believe that I have now been at First United Methodist Church for four months! I have settled in nicely and am grateful to be part of such a vibrant ministry and such a welcoming congregation. I continue to be excited about the opportunities we have to worship, serve, care for one another, and reach out into our community together. I also wanted to share that I have recently stepped into a volunteer role as Director of Donor Relations with Compassion Strategies, a local organization working with people experiencing homelessness, poverty, and other significant life challenges. In this role, I will help strengthen relationships with donors, churches, businesses, and community partners and help connect their generosity with the lives and stories being changed through this important work. There is already a meaningful connection between FUMC and Compassion Strategies, as our Senior Pastor Brad serves on the organization’s Board of Directors. I am grateful for the opportunity to deepen that connection through my own service while continuing in my part-time ministry at FUMC. In many ways, I see these roles as complementary expressions of things I care deeply about: building relationships, strengthening community, and serving our neighbors. Jesus’ words in Matthew 25 about caring for those who are hungry, thirsty, strangers, in need of clothing, sick, or imprisoned speak deeply to me, and I see both of these opportunities as ways of living out that call. I am grateful for these opportunities to serve and especially grateful to have found a home among you at First United Methodist Church. Pat Director of Caring Ministries & Worship |
