Topeka First UMC News, Info., & Events, April 16, 2026
Greetings Topeka First UMC, I hope that you are having a great week! This weekend is the annual Youth Group Dinner Theater! There are a number of skits that we wrote together and a few melodramas as well. A plated dinner including soup, salad, entree/sides, and dessert will be served. There will also be a silent auction to assist in the raising of funds for our mission trip to Nashville, Tennessee. Please join us Saturday night at 5:00 pm or Sunday at 12:00 pm. Let us know you'll be attending by signing up using this link. This Sunday in worship, we are continuing our sermon series, "Failing Forward." Last Sunday we talked about how God views failure and our response. This week, I look forward to discussing how we overcome the failures of the past. When Moses led God's people out of slavery, they got into the desert and began asking if they could go back to Egypt. Would they be better off going back to slavery in Egypt or traveling forward to the promised land? Sometimes, we might think the same way. We wish we could go back and change something from our past. But let's be honest. We can never go back to Egypt or change the past! So how do we make peace with past sins or failures? That is our question for Sunday! See you Saturday or Sunday,

Nehemiah Action Assembly
You're invited to gather with community members, faith leaders, and local officials for the Topeka JUMP Nehemiah Assembly on Thursday, April 30 at 6:30 PM at Washburn University's Lee Arena. This is a powerful opportunity to come together and take faithful, collective action around some of the most urgent issues facing our community, including homelessness, affordable housing, and food insecurity. Through stories, shared concerns, and specific calls to action, we will work toward real, tangible change in Topeka. Your presence matters. When we show up together, we make it clear that these issues cannot be ignored. We hope you'll join us and consider inviting a friend, neighbor, or fellow church member to come alongside you. Contact Pastor Grace for more information! |
