Topeka First UMC: Your Bridge to God, One Another, and the Community

Greetings Topeka First UMC,

I hope that you are staying warm and safe this week! Sounds like warmer weather is on the way.

Thank you to everyone who brought food for the Bishops food drive. We collected 250 lbs. The food will be donated to local mission partner food pantries. This week is the last week to bring clothes for Scott Dual Language school.

Coming up Sunday, we will continue examining our "Blind Spots," as we turn this week to Finding God in our lives. Sometimes it may seem as though God is nowhere to be found. On Sunday, we will look for God in the "Blind Spots" we may not realize are present.

Since we should have nice weather next Wednesday, Wednesday evening activities will finally resume! We'll start at 6 pm with a baked potato bar dinne. Steve Eubank is hosting the adult Wednesday Conversation from 6:30 - 7:30 pm. Kid activities are 6:30 - 7:30 pm, and Youth Group runs 6:30 - 8 pm.

See you Sunday,

Pastor Brad

PS: Please take time to sign up to help greet and hand out bulletins before the service you usually attend. Additionally, the 2025 Liturgist schedule is now open!  Both links remain the same throughout the year.

Brahms German Requiem - A Requiem for Humanity

This spring the Lawrence Civic Choir, Topeka Choral Society, and the Lawrence Community Orchestra will be presenting the Brahms Requiem at the Lied Center in Lawrence on April 5, and here in Topeka at White Concert Hall on May 3. I will be leading a class on Wednesday, February 23 that will cover the history and what makes this work so special. Each performance will be sung in English. The Requiem augments the season of lent and the hope we find in the scriptures set to music by Brahms. I hope you will come join me to learn and explore this amazing choral masterpiece!
