Topeka First United Methodist Church member, Betty Evelyn Wright, 93, of Topeka, passed away on Wednesday, July 24, 2024.

She was born on April 3, 1931 in Independence, Kansas to John and Evelyn Pruitt. Betty went to high school in Independence, KS and later attended Independence Community College and HBCU Philander Smith College in Little Rock, Arkansas before returning to Kansas. Betty worked at the historic Kansas Technical Institute (KTI) in Topeka, Kansas where she met Larry Wright; they married and supported each other for more than sixty-five years.

Betty was an exceptionally talented and generous seamstress and quilter. In her later years, she provided much support and leadership to the quilting group at the Topeka United Methodist Church where she was a member for decades. Her sewing legacy can be seen throughout the church in some of their liturgical banners in their chapels. Betty was a devoted and loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt, friend and mentor.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents, John and Evelyn Pruitt; son, Maurice Wright, and husband, Larry Wright. She is survived by daughter, Doris Carroll and her husband, Greg (Kansas City, MO) and son, Larry Wright, Jr. and his wife, Trudy (Ft. Madison, IA), two grandchildren, three great grandchildren, and numerous nieces, cousins and loving friends.

A memorial service date is pending.
