Topeka First UMC News, Info., & Events, Jan. 23, 2026
Greetings Topeka First UMC, I hope you are having another great week! It looks like we're might get hit pretty hard with snow. Certainly the temperatures are going to be frigid! We will update you on Saturday evening via text and email if there are any changes to Sunday service times. Coming up on Sunday, we are beginning a new sermon series called, "When Life Creates Friction." Friction is when 2 objects make contact as they move in opposite directions. Within our lives, there are moments when life and time are moving in opposite directions, and we are forced to make difficult decisions. Our new sermon series will take us down the road of allowing God to help us when we reach these moments of friction. This Sunday, we will begin by looking at time. No matter what happens, good or bad, time just keeps going. This week, we will see how God is at work in those most stressful moments, and time is not on our side! On Sunday, February 1, the Missions team is hosting a ministry fair, from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm which will include a number of community partners and non-profits that are doing amazing work across Topeka. Later that night, we are hosting our annual State of the Church dinner and meeting. Chili and cinnamon rolls will be served for dinner at 5:00 pm, followed by our all-church meeting at 6:00 pm. Next week, our church is hosting the Great Plains Conference, Board of Ordained Ministry (BOOM). There will be members of the team and candidates for ministry at the church Monday through Thursday. Please be in prayer for all of the candidates. I encourage each family to pick a Sunday Morning Volunteer spot. Please use this link to pick your spot! See Shawna if it's easier! See you Sunday,
