Life Groups at Topeka First UMC
Updated: Feb 28, 2019
As we continue to find ways to live into our Discipleship Pathway, we are excited to launch Life Groups at Topeka First UMC. These small groups of 8 to 10 people are committed to growing closer to God and to each other. These are more than a Sunday School Class or coffee group.
These groups live in covenant with one another offering support, care, and opportunities to live life differently. Our first round of Life Groups launches in March and will meet for 6 weeks during the season of Lent. Our Life Groups meet at a variety of locations and times so we are sure that there is a group for you to connect to.
Life Groups are not something new. In fact, living in dedicated community with others is a central tenant of the Methodist tradition. When John Wesley, the founder of Methodism, began his ministry it was not focused on big congregations who gathered for an hour to worship God in a sanctuary. Instead, he focused on helping people live in community with one another. Through these communities he hoped, as we do today, that people would discover new ways to connect, grow, and serve.
