Pastor E-Note
Greeting Topeka First UMC, I hope that you are having a great week! I sent you an email on Wednesday with links for the world-wide United Methodist Church General Conference (a meeting that happens every four years). The meeting started on Tuesday and runs through next week. While there are a number of issues that are being addressed, the biggest question facing General Conference is full inclusion of LGBTQ+ individuals. Once the votes are taken, and we have an idea of what this means, I will send an email with what we know. Please be in prayer for all General Conference delegates, especially Topeka First's Randall Hodgkinson. Randall will have an update for us on Sunday in worship. If you'd like updates, you can use the official General Conference website: UMCGC.org. The Finding Hope sermon series comes to a conclusion on Sunday as we work through Finding Hope in Depression. We will look at a resource list, think holistically about mental health, and see how some of the most important people in all the scriptures dealt with hopelessness and depression. There are quite a few events to take note of this weekend. Pastor Karissa's final presentation about her Greece "Journey in the Footsteps of Paul" is this Sunday in Fellowship Hall at 9:15 am. At 2:30 pm on Sunday, young adults are gathering for a "Potluck Picnic & Plant Potting Party" at the Steak Grill Shelter at Gage Park (babysitting is available--see Pastor Grace). Lastly, this is the last Sunday we'll be collecting for our April Mission Collection which benefits MAP so try to bring any of the items listed (razors, batteries, bug spray, flashlights, plastic sacks, pants/underwear, food storage bags, 1st aid items) on Sunday. It'd be great if a few folks could help be greeters at the 9:30 & the 10:45 service this week. if you're available, please click the link and sign up to greeting, serving communion, or reading liturgy Next Thursday, Laura Reiman will be commissioned as a Children's Minister at the Ministry Leadership Initiative Commissioning Service! If you'd like to attend, join us at Southminster Presbyterian Church, 6306 Roe Ave., Prairie Village, KS 66208. If you can't make it, you are welcome to bring a card for Laura and leave it at the Connection Desk in the Celebration Room. Summer is fast approaching, and this is going to be a summer of transition for our church. Pastor Karissa is being reappointed as of July 1 to Geneva UMC in Nebraska. Obviously we want to honor and thank Karissa for her ministry with us. Karissa will be preaching for the last time on June 16, and we will have a celebration of her ministry on June 23. That leaves us with the question of how to fill her position? On Sunday, we will be announcing plans for new staff! See you Sunday, Pastor Brad Please reference the complete church calendar for ongoing events. |
